NBA Accreditation (2024) - Apply Online, Process, Required Documents, and Eligibility Criteria

Established in the year 1994 by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) council is one among the two prominent educational bodies in India responsible for approving and certifying degree programmes and courses offered by higher educational institutions (HEIs) such as engineering colleges and universities. An NBA certificate substantiates the presence of good technical education in the institution at undergraduate and graduate levels by recognizing the academic programme(s)/department(s) with an exceptional curriculum that contributes to the overall development of students. Thus acquiring the certification greatly aids to benefit the institutions' publicity and popularity. Given below are the prescribed process, eligibility criteria, and list of documents required for the Institutions looking to apply for the accreditation.

Difference between NAAC and NBA Accreditation

While the NAAC Accreditation process focuses on grading the HEIs using the 7 Criteria and 34 Key Indicators method, the National Accreditation board primarily concentrates for certifying programme(s) and course(s) offered by the institutions.

NBA Accreditation Process

The systematic workflow of NBA Accreditation Process:

  1. Register your institution online by filling-in with necessary details
  2. Login and apply for the Accreditation
  3. Submit 10% of the accreditation fee along with the pre-qualifier documents
  • The board evaluates the pre-qualifies and proceeds further if the program meets the accreditation qualifier necessities
  • Upon approval, submit the remaining 90% of the fee along with the Self-Assessment Report (SAR)
  • An evaluation team visits the institution to conduct further assessment and submits a draft copy of the analysis to the institution for factual response
  1. Examine the draft report for errors, if any, submit the response indicating the errors to the Moderation Committee within 14 days of receiving the draft
  • The moderation team then submits the comprehensive report to the Evaluation and Accreditation Committee (EAC)
  • The EAC examines the comprehensive report then passes it onto the Sub Committee of Academic Advisory Committee
  • The Academic Advisory Committee makes the accreditation decision and conveys to the institution

NBA Accreditation Documents Required

Educational Institutions either in Tier I or in the Tier II system ought to fill and submit the Pre-qualifier form available on the board's official website. Upon receiving the approval, HEIs must formulate and submit the Self-Assessment Report.
